Obituary: Ethel (Nelson) Armstrong – December 19, 2011

Ethel (Nelson) Armstrong 94, of Southborough died on Monday, December 19, 2011 at her home. She was the wife of the late Hamilton Armstrong, who passed away in 1988.

Mrs. Armstrong was a 1935 graduate of the former Peter’s High School of Southborough and a graduate of the former South Middlesex Secretarial School. She worked for many years with her husband as an administrative assistant for his insurance business. Ethel was a very giving person, she was the Southborough Red Cross Coordinator; a girl scout leader; volunteer for the Visual Education Department for Children’s Hospital; charter member of Southborough Historical Society; active member of 1st Community Church of Southborough; past president of the Southborough Senior Citizen Club, where she was instrumental in creating the club; member of Friends of the Southborough Library; member of Southboro women’s Club; honorary member of the Southborough Rotary Club; and registrar of voters for the town of Southborough.

She is survived by her brother Wallace M. Nelson of Newport, ME and 4 nieces and 3 nephews. She is pre-deceased by 2 brothers Alec N. Nelson and Robert R. Nelson.

There are no visiting hours. A funeral home service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at 10 AM at the Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main St. Southborough.
