Going out of town? Let the Southborough Police Department know

Southborough has seen a few break-ins over the past couple of months, so if you’re going out of town for the holidays you might want to let the Southborough Police Department know.

Residents can request what’s called a “vacation check” of their home while they’re away. When they do, police will make a point of driving by the home to check on it. On their Facebook page, the Southborough Police Department said they keep a list of homes that request extra patrols, and each shift is briefed on the list.

Call police dispatch at 508-485-2147 to request a vacation check. You’ll need to leave your contact information with the dispatcher in case police need to reach you. Also let them know about any other pertinent information like what vehicles will be parked in the driveway or the names of family or friends who may be stopping by to water plants or check on your pets.

It’s also a good idea to let your neighbors know you’ll be out of town so they can keep an eye on things. A break-in at a vacant home on Oak Hill Road in November was thwarted thanks to an observant neighbor.
