MWDN: Assabet mourns soccer captain

I was preparing a roundup of Assabet Valley Technical High School news when I came across their recent tragedy I missed.

In the first hour of Sunday, January 5th, 18 year old Assabet student Pablo Salcedo of Westborough flipped his car into ongoing route 9 traffic. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Metrowest Daily News reports:

Officials at Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School said students and staff members there are in mourning today after an 18-year-old senior at the school was killed in a car crash this weekend in Westborough. . .

Salcedo, the captain of the boys soccer team, was set to graduate this spring, according to a statement released Monday by Assabet Valley Superintendent Patrick Collins. Salcedo was a senior in the Health Technologies Shop and also played on the boys volleyball team and on the football team his freshman year.

As news of Salcedo’s death spread on Sunday, students at the school organized a “blue out” for Monday, with students and staff wearing Aztec blue to remember him, according to the statement.

Assabet guidance counselors let students know they were available to meet with anyone who wanted to talk.

As of the Monday article, Westborough police and the regional accident reconstruction team were investigating the accident.
