Obituary: Rita H. (Plante) Mahoney, 87

Rita H. (Plante) Mahoney, 87, of Southborough, died Wednesday November 5, 2014 in the Jewish Healthcare Center surrounded by her loving family.

Rita was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, daughter of the late Osa and Helene F. (Bouffard) Plante. She was raised in Worcester and graduated from Worcester Girls Trade School where she studied type setting.

She had been employed as a sales associate for over 15 years at the former Zayre’s Department Store in Worcester before she retired.

Rita was a fun-loving person, her friends from Briarwood described her as always participating in everything that Briarwood offered. She enjoyed many hobbies including dancing, singing, painting, sewing, playing the organ and her favorite enjoyment of all, traveling. 

She leaves her loving daughter, Carol Smith and her husband, Kevin and their daughter, Kelina of Princeton; sister-in-law, Marilyn Plante of Pennsylvania; two nephews, Ronald and Steven Plante and three nieces, Susan Plante Wrabley, Tina Plante and Laurie Leitzinger. She was predeceased by her husband, John Mahoney and a brother, Roland Plante.

Calling hours for Rita will be on Friday, November 14, 2014 from 2:00-4:00PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury.

A prayer service honoring her life will follow at 4:00PM. Burial will be private in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
