Friends of Southborough Recreation need help

Eight years ago, three mothers started the Friends of  Southborough Recreation. They were looking to help the town increase its recreational opportunities for their children and the community.

The group evolved and accomplished a lot since then. But now it needs an infusion of new blood.

Southborough Recreation put out a call for a new Chair and Co-Chair for the Friends. They also need supporting volunteers (who can give as much or as little time as they choose.)

I hope some of you answer their call:

Southborough Community,

The Friends of Southborough Recreation is looking to revitalize itself with new members. The organization supports recreational activities for the youth and families of Southborough through its 501(c)3 status. As residents and parents in the Town of Southborough, we believe it is important to support our community and assist in providing for and expanding public recreation for all areas of development and age groups. Currently, many families leave our town’s borders to pursue recreational activities. Our organization would like to help provide activities to keep our families here in town and promote community togetherness and spirit. We are seeking to expand opportunities for families to gather and grow together within the town of Southborough.

The Friends of Southborough Recreation hopes to gain funding through grants, donations and general fundraising in order to support the children and families of Southborough. The goals of our organization are to support existing community events, develop new community programs and activities, award scholarships and fulfill the general needs of the Recreation Department. Together with the Recreation Department, Recreation Commission and Selectmen, we hope to provide a variety of resources to facilitate physical, social, emotional and intellectual development for children and families in our town. We believe investing in our youth and families is an integral part of developing and maintaining a well-rounded community.

The Board is looking to fill the Chair and Co-chair positions. We are also looking for help with fundraising, website design, accounting/tax help. The Board meets quarterly and works very closely with the Recreation Department. Your involvement can be as much or as little as you like.

Below is a list of accomplishments that we hope to continue as a 501(c)3:

  • Southborough Summer Nights
  • Movie and Concert Series
