Southborough man convicted of raping girl

A case that first became public in 2014, ended yesterday in a guilty verdict. According to the Telegram, Robert A. Cerqua of Southborough was convicted and sentenced to 12-15 years in prison, followed by 10 years of probation for sexually assaulting a child over several years.

In 2014, the 15 year old victim told her mother about the repeated assaults that began in 2008.

Cerqua plead guilty, but asked for the minimum jail time (10 years) and only five for probation. The DA’s office asked for 25-30 years, followed by probation. The final sentence includes requirements for GPS monitoring throughout his probation, plus sex offender treatments.

The story is an ugly, tragic one. I’ll direct you to the Telegram for more details.
