Open skate to support Algonquin Student Council

Algonquin Student Council has planned some open skate times beginning late next week.

Skate times will take place on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons in February.

Admission is $2 per person. Helmets are required for children under 5 and recommended for children under 9.

Refreshments including hot chocolate will be for sale. Skating will take place on a rink on the school’s tennis courts near the gym parking lot.

The fun is scheduled for Fridays February 3rd, 17th, and 24th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and Saturdays February 4th, 11th, and 18th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.

Of course, I have to think the schedule depends somewhat on Mother Nature. Which reminds me of our own Town rink.

So far, weather hasn’t cooperated enough for the Town to give a go ahead on the rink in front of Woodward School this year.

I checked in with Recreation Director Doreen Ferguson to find out how residents will know when it’s up and running. One clear tell, the big orange sign that says “no skating” will come down. Rec will also send out an email blast.

If you aren’t on Rec’s email list, this is one more reason to sign up. Click here to get on their distribution list for announcements about programs, classes, and events.
