Forum on article to plan Town’s technology use

Next week, the Library is hosting another forum on a Special Town Meeting article. Proponents of Article 5 seek to create a committee to do more strategic thinking around the Town’s use of technology.

Article 5 would create a standing committee on technology. Proponents are holding a forum to explain the article to the public and answer questions.

The forum takes place on Thursday, February 23 at 7:00 pm:

The Town of Southborough needs to make better use of technology, both for citizen services and for its operations. An article at the March 8 Town Meeting would establish a standing town committee to generate and maintain a five-year rolling strategic plan for all technology uses by the town and would oversee its implementation. This is a brief presentation on the article, with plenty of time for questions.

Brown Gears An article at the March 8 Special Town Meeting would establish a standing committee that would be responsible for creating a rolling five-year Strategic Plan for the Town’s technologies across all government entities, and would ensure consistent interpretation and execution of that plan. This replaces the existing “ad-hoc Municipal Technology Committee”, which has a limited charter and has outlived its usefulness. The new committee would work in collaboration with the various government entities that use and propose technologies. It would report on the plan to the Town Meeting and advise Town Meeting on proposed expenditures for technology.
