The Board of Selectmen are seeking recruits for a new committee to oversee the approved Public Safety Building. While the committee has yet to be formally created and given a charge, the Town already posted the recruitment announcement yesterday:

The Board of Selectmen seeks citizens to serve on the Public Safety Building Committee. Please apply by the end of the day on Friday May 19, 2017.

Applicants are invited to apply with a letter and resume. You can mail that to the Selectmen’s Office at 17 Common St, Southborough, Ma 01772 or click here to apply online.

Board members discussed populating the committee with any members of the Public Safety Study Committee that were interested in continuing their work. However, they also planned to add at least one other resident.

Selectmen plan to conduct candidate interviews at a meeting in June. They will also discuss the committee’s specific charge. Expect that to include responsibility for containing or reigning in costs.

During the campaign to get the project approved by Town Meeting voters, Public Safety Study Committee members pitched that other towns have used Building Committees to successfully lower project costs below original budgets.
