Relief Drive to help Puerto Rico Rise – Saturday

This Saturday, Southborough is hosting another collection drive for victims of a hurricane. This weekend’s effort will support “Puerto Rico Rises”.

For one of the drive organizers, there is a personal connection. Southborough resident Sharlene Lugo was born and raised in Puerto Rico and still has family members there.

Lugo reached out to Selectwoman Lisa Braccio who has helped to organize and run past collection drives in town. That includes acting as one of the co-organizers of last months collection for Hurricane Harvey victims in Houston.

Last month, residents turned out in droves to support the Houston drive. This time around, organizers are asking residents not to donate what was among the most donated items of that drive – used (or new) clothing.

There are a few items that can be gently used in good condition (blankets and towels, for instance.) But the most needed items are ones that make best sense to be new/unopened. Items sought include personal care items, tools & supplies, some food/drink, and health and medicine. (Scroll down for list.)

In addition to donations, organizers are seeking volunteers to help out that day. The drive will run from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm at the Southborough Senior Center.
