More Holiday Giving: Support children in foster care; reminder of other giving drives in Town

Last week, I shared information on charitable holiday drives in Southborough. I received one more. So, here is that information, along with a reminder of the others.

Department of Children and Families

Neighbors For Peace is partnering with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) this holiday to collect toys, clothes, and other items for children in foster care:

Children in foster care have all experienced some form of trauma, from witnessing violence to being victims of verbal or physical abuse. Many have parents that themselves struggle with substance abuse and mental illness and cannot care for them. When placed in foster care, they take few belongings with them. These children have given their social workers a wish list.

To get information on a child to buy gifts for, please contact Safdar Medina at safdar.medina@gmail.com. All gifts should be unwrapped. Please deliver the gifts to 19 Southwood Drive by Sunday December 17th.

Southborough Youth and Family Services’ Holiday Giving Program

Each year SYFS coordinates a collection of gifts and monetary donations to spread holiday cheer to financially struggling residents. They are expecting to again help over 40 families this holiday season. You can donate gift cards or monetary support by December 16th. For the details, read the dedicated post here.

Pretzels for Presents

This isn’t technically a giving drive. But, the fundraiser by Southborough middle schoolers will be used to purchase presents for children stuck in the hospital over the holidays. Which means by purchasing a gift for one friend or family member, you’re helping to fund another present for a child in need.

The girls are accepting orders for candy coated pretzels through December 13th. Pretzels will be delivered by the 22nd. And presents will be delivered to Boston Shriners Hospital for Children in time for Christmas. For details, see dedicated post.

KeepSmilin4Abbie’s 3rd Annual Toy Drive

Donations are for Boston Children’s Hospital. Please consider purchasing and donating an unwrapped toy to put a smile on the face of children who cannot be home for the holidays. Dropoff in Southborough is at Woodward Elementary School through this Friday. For details, open flyer.

Project Just Because

The Southborough Fire Department is again collecting toys for this Hopkinton charity. Project Just Because distributes the toys to families in Worcester County. Toys will be individually selected for a child and then delivered to the home in time for Christmas.

Gifts should be new and unwrapped. Please try to get donations in by Monday, December 18. The Fire Department is always open, so drop them by any time. For a list of requested items, see the original Holiday Giving post.
