Police: Suspects identified and charged in Hall of Comics burglary

Southborough Police announced that two men will face charges in connection to a Southborough burglary last fall.

Last December, the SPD shared that 175 comics valued at $15,000-$20,000 were reported stolen from Southborough House of Comics in November. Following the theft, the SPD tracked down security footage of a man alleged to have sold one of the stolen comics. The police were seeking help from the public in identifying a suspect based on the video.

Today’s press release shares SPD worked with Rhode Island police to identify suspects now being charged, two brothers from RI. RI police located a stash of a portion of the stolen goods:

On, November 27, 2017, at 0023 hours, Southborough Police investigated a Breaking and Entering call at the Hall of Comics located at 3 Turnpike Road. Inventory valued at approximately twenty-thousand dollars was reported to be missing. Working with the owner of the business, Detective Keith Nichols and Lt. Sean James were able to trace several of the comics that were sold to another comic book business in Cranston, R.I.

Detective Nichols was able to work with the Cranston P.D. Detective Unit in developing suspects who were also wanted in similar crimes in R.I. As a result, [the first accused] of West Warwick R.I. will be summonsed for arraignment in Westborough District Court to face charges of B&E Building Night Time For Felony (266/16/A), Larceny Over $250.00 For Felony (266/30/A), and Trespass (266/120). He is currently in custody in R.I.

A warrant has been issued for his brother, [the second accused] of Coventry, R.I., as a result of the investigation. He will face the same charges in relation to the break. A portion of the stolen comic books have been recovered at the West Warwick address of [the first accused].

The Department would like to recognize Lt. James and Detective Nichols for their investigative work in solving numerous Breaking and Entering and Theft cases over the past several months.
