Obituary: Suzanne Groark Morgan, 83

Suzanne Groark Morgan, 83, of Southborough and Pocasset, MA passed peacefully at home on Monday, November 19, 2018.

She was born in Bridgeport, CT on June 27, 1935 the daughter of the late Thomas J. Groark and Marie La Hait Groark.

Suzanne grew up in Westchester County, NY before moving to New London, CT where she attended high school at the Williams School on the campus of Connecticut College. Suzanne later graduated from the College of New Rochelle in 1957 and maintained close relationships made there until her death. She was a proud alum and supported the college throughout her life. She later pursued graduate studies at Columbia School of Social Work.

On July 2, 1960 she married Richard R. Morgan Jr. of New London CT whom she met on Pequot Beach during the summer of 1950. After living in New York City for four years they moved to Wayland, MA to raise four beloved daughters. 

Suzanne had a rewarding career as a social worker in the adoption departments at The New York Foundling and Diocese of Norwich CT. After moving to Wayland MA, she began raising her family and later continued her career as a social worker and admissions counselor at Kathryn Barton Nursing Home in Wayland and St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham. She and Richard later retired to Southborough after 40 years in Wayland. 

Suzanne loved to travel and relax with close friends, including the many relationships developed over her summers on Cape Cod. She adored her grandchildren and was a constant presence at their sporting events and activities. She was very active in charitable work for Catholic Charities, Wayland Charitable Foundation, Meals on Wheels and as an ESL volunteer at the Wayland Public library. In recent years, she continued this work knitting prayer shawls with the St. Anne’s committee in Southborough.

Suzanne is survived by her husband Richard and daughters Anne M. Morgan of Lincoln; Susan E. Hobart of Framingham; Elizabeth M. Charter and her husband Gareth of Needham; Margaret R.M. Mack and her husband Richard of Winchester. She is the proud grandmother of Stephanie, Sarah and Michele Hobart; Ryan, Kathryn and Lily Charter; and McKenzie and Toby Mack. She is the great grandmother to Madison Rose. Suzanne is also survived by her sister Joan Groark Miller of Bridgehampton, NY and her husband Walter Miller. She is predeceased by her brother Thomas J. Groark, Jr. of Hartford, CT, and his wife Eunice S. Groark.

The family would like to especially thank Father Albert Irudayasamy of St. Anne’s in Southborough whose faithful weekly visits the last year were much appreciated. In addition, the family wants to thank Didi and Tracy of VNA Care Network and Hilda Lonergan at Dignity Hospice for their tireless support.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Suzanne on Sunday, November 25, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rte, 30), Wayland.

All guests are asked to go directly to her Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, November 26, 2018 at 11:00 o’clock at Good Shepherd Parish at St. Ann Church, 124 Cochituate Road (Rte. 27), Wayland.

Interment will follow in the Morgan family lot in North Cemetery in Wayland.
