Combined School Committees on hourly workers, bus contract, and Start School Later – Wed night

When the Combined School Committees for Northborough and Southborough last met, the reopening of school buildings in May was still a possibility. Decisions about hourly employees and bus contracts were based on that.

If the circumstances changed, the administration planned to bring the topics back to the committees for re-evaluation. That will happen this Wednesday night.

Last month, the administration was given the go-ahead to renegotiate the bus contract with NRT.  At that time, committees supported keeping bus drivers on the contractor’s payroll. That was at least partially due to the need to have drivers available if schools reopened. The agenda for Wednesday, April 29th includes action and discussion on the NRT contract.

In the previous meeting, committee members also supported continuing to pay the district’s hourly employees during the temporary closure. That topic is also back on the agenda this week.

Committees will also get an update on the Start School Later Task Force. A Facebook post last Friday shared that while their timeline is a bit off, the group and administration have continued to move forward. They hope to move into “Phase 3” soon. That includes communicating viable options to the community, then seeking feedback and addressing concerns.

First up on the agenda is voting to approve the finalist for the Assistant Superintendent position. You can see the full agenda here.

The meeting is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm and should be viewable via Northborough Cable or Southborough Access Media’s Government channel. That’s available in Southborough on Verizon-29 and Charter-194 or via NCAT’s live stream. The meeting will also be rebroadcast through NCAT’s YouTube channel and VOD player.
