  • Drop-in Pickleball (9:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Richardson Tennis Courts, on the Neary School campus (53 Parkerville Road): The Southborough Recreation is offering the program for free to Southborough residents that are 55 years or older. For details, see dedicated post.

Tuesday, August 11, 2020

  • Coffee Talk (10:00 – 11:00 am) @ live streaming on Facebook: A mid-morning online talk show featuring community guests hosted by Southborough Youth and Family Services. This episode features this episode features the Southborough Youth Council. (Note: you don’t have to have a Facebook account to watch the videos.) For details, see dedicated post.
  • Library’s Virtual Story Time (10:30 am) @ Facebook: Children’s Librarian “Miss Kim” will hold a story time on Facebook live, which will also be viewable after. (Note: you don’t have to have a Facebook account to watch the videos.)
  • Creative Writing Club (3:00 – 3:40 pm) @ zoom: Southborough Library is hosting this weekly club for tweens and teens through mid-August. Are you looking for a new place to foster your writing? How about a welcoming environment to share writing projects? Or maybe some help practicing your writing skills in a fun way? Tuesday afternoons meet with other writers along with library associate Marianna Sorensen to brainstorm ideas and share projects. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Drive-In Movie Night – Frozen II (7:00 – about 9:45 pm) @ Neary School athletic fields, 59 Parkerville Rd: Southborough Recreation has revamped the outdoor movie series. Attendance is free with no registration required. Now, instead of watching from blankets on the field, attendees will watch from their cars. The lot will open at 7:00 pm with attendance limited to 40 cars – first come, first served. The movie will begin at 8:00 pm. For details, see dedicated post

  • Facebook Live Music with David Garden! (11:00 – 11:30 am) @ Facebook: (Note: This event was postponed from last week.) Looking for something fun to do with the kids this summer? Join the Southborough Library for a FACEBOOK LIVE CONCERT for children performed by David Garden. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Southborough Library.
  • Online Literacy Webinar by Fay School (1:00 – 1:35 pm or 8:30 – 9:05 pm) @ webinar: Your Parenting Toolbox: Fostering Language and Literacy in the Early Years. Register now for Fay School’s parenting webinar for parents of children ages 3-6. Learn how to help your child develop literacy skills and get ready for reading. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Drive Through Luncheon (for Senior “Friends”) (12:00 – 1:30 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: This “Drive Through” program is exclusive to current members of Friends of the Council on Aging, this is offered by the Senior Center. The event required pre-registration and may already be full. (Call 508-29-1753 to check). Luncheon will be provided by TJ’s Spirits from Ashland. For details, see dedicated post
  • Virtual Reading Circle (8:00 – 9:00 pm) @ zoom: Virtual Reading Circle – for adults. It’s a chance to talk about what you’re reading or listening to with library staff and patrons. To register, click here.

  • Hike with Goats (10:00 am – 2:00 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: Pre-registration required. (Select a one hour time slot.) Take a leisurely hike through Chestnut Hill Farm’s beautiful grounds and trails, accompanied by one or more of our friendly goats! Hiking with goats is a fun and unique way to spend some time in nature and make some cuddly goat friends at the same time. Your reservation gets you and your group of family or friends an hour-long experience with a friendly goat on its own harness and leash. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Build a Bee House (1:00 – 3:00 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: By placing a mason bee hotel in your garden, you can attract native pollinators to your flowers — which is great for any home or garden! Learn about the importance of native pollinators and create your own mason bee hotel to take home. This workshop does require pre-registration and has a limited amount of tickets. Updated (8/11/20 8:34 am): As promised, I have an update on the Movie Night. But it’s much bigger than which movie will be screened. The movie will now be a drive-in with capped attendance. And the event will no longer be weekly. See dedicated post for details.
