Oh “Dear”, please don’t reply to email asking if you can “communicate”!

I was contacted by two residents today* about an email they received from “Elaine Johnson”. The message simply states:

Hi dear, can we communicate here?, I got your contact in this web site(mysouthborough.com)

It certainly smells like a clumsy phishing attempt. If you receive an email with the subject “hi” from that email address, please junk it as spam. (I have “reported” the email user.)

*Based on the reports I received, it looks like they were people who shared their email for readers to contact them in past stories. This doesn’t appear to be related to my subscriber email list or my contacts.
