Residents help organize a special Rally & Run to support AAPI community – Saturday

Above: Southborough members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community are among those organizing a special “Rally & Run” on the Boston Marathon route tomorrow.

Southborough’s Jun Qi and Zhisong Ji are among the organizers of a special event scheduled for tomorrow morning. The event is promoted to:

Stop Hate Rally & Run promoto show solidarity in wake of deadly Atlanta shootings, to mourn the loss of eight lives including six Asian women, to condemn acts of violence and discrimination against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and to display unity, resilience, and strength of the Asian American community.

As part of the effort to “Stay United & Strong” they are incorporating a Boston Marathon theme. Qi asked me to share the New England Chinese American Alliance’s public invitation:

New England Chinese American Alliance (NECAA) would cordially invite your organization to participate in a Rally & Running through eight cities/towns along the world-famous Boston Marathon route as a co-organizer of this event. . .

Each city/town will be stationed by one of the following organizations in the order from start to finish: Belmont Chinese American Association, Chinese American Association of Lexington, Chinese American Network of Winchester, Wellesley Chinese Language School, Chinese American Association of Newton, Brookline Chinese School, New Legacy Cultural Center and Tsinghua Alumni Association at Greater Boston.

Our spectators will be holding signs on the sidewalk, while four teams of runners set out at four locations simultaneously to complete a full marathon. Each section is 10 km. Commemorative ceremonies will be held in Hopkinton and Boston Common where the run starts and finishes, respectively.

We’d like to remind you to please wear a mask and practice social distancing. We’d also appreciate it if you could share your experience on social media during or after the event.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.
