Events this week: Cannabis and the Teen Brain, SYFS Story Time, Electronic, Appliance, and Bicycle Recycle Day, and Town Meeting

  • Preschool Story Time (10:30 – 11:00 am) @ Facebook Live: Children’s Librarian “Miss Kim” will hold a story time for ages 2-6 (siblings welcome). Each week will feature themed stories on Facebook Live with Ms. Kim! No registration necessary (Note: You don’t have to have a Facebook account to watch the Library’s videos, which are still viewable after the live event is over.)

  • Outdoor Preschool Yoga (10:30 – 11:15 am) @ Southborough Library Lawn: Free program for children age 3-6 (siblings welcome). A Certified Kids’ Yoga Instructor will take children through a series of yoga postures, using games, music, and literacy activities.  Sponsored by Friends of the Southborough Library.   • Outdoor Story Time (10:30 – 11:00 am) @ Southborough Library’s back lawn: Join Miss Kim on the lawn (weather permitting) for stories and craft based on a weekly theme. Please bring a blanket or chair. Please pre-register. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Seated Chair Yoga for seniors (1:00 – 2:00 pm) @ zoom: For details on weekly class, see newsletter.
  • Cannabis and the Teen Brain (7:30 – 9:00 pm): Parents and caregivers are invited to this free virtual workshop sponsored by the Northborough-Southborough Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition. Dr. Safdar Medina shares a fresh perspective on today’s cannabis and it’s impacts on teen health & adolescent brain development.   • Dull Men’s Club (10:00 – 11:00 am) @ zoom: Weekly social club for senior men hosted by Southborough Senior Center. For details, see newsletter.
  • Senior Continental Breakfast (10:30am) @ Southborough Senior Center lawn, 9 Cordaville Road: This Senior Center program is limited to current members of the Friends of Council on Aging. Pre-registration is required (and it could fill up quickly.) Social breakfast on the lawn with social distance and masks. (Weather dependent) Continental Breakfasts by TJ’s Spirits from Ashland.   • SYFS Storytime FlyerSYFS Story Time (10:30 am – 11:00 am) @ Southborough Library’s back lawn: Join Southborough Youth & Family Services (SYFS) for Story Time outside on the Southborough Library Lawn! During this program, we will explore feelings through mindfulness. By quieting our minds and minds, we can discover different feelings through stories and activities. (Rain date May 28th.)   • Electronic, Appliance, and Bicycle Recycle Day (9:00 am – 2:00 pm) @ Saint Anne’s Church parking lot, 20 Boston Road: Recycle Electronics and Appliances for a fee. (No fee on keyboards, car batteries , cables, wire and cell phones.) Also collecting bicycles for no fee.   • Annual Town Meeting opens (10:00 am – 1:00 pm; 2:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Neary School fields, 53 Parkerville Road: Opening session for this year’s Annual Town Meeting. Southborough voters act as town legislature to appropriate money to fund the Town’s expenses (for the fiscal year July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2022) and act on other issues such as zoning bylaws and Citizen Petition Articles.   • Pollination Preservation Garden Volunteering (10:00 am) @ Beals Preserve: The garden is being created as a joint effort by the Southborough Open Land Foundation & Southborough’s Open Space Preservation Commission to support native pollinators. Volunteers will work on the first step in preparing the new garden. Cardboard will be laid down like wall to wall carpeting and woodchips placed on top. This will smother the existing vegetation to create a planting bed for the late summer or fall. To register, click here. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Potential continuation of Annual Town Meeting (1:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Neary School fields, 53 Parkerville Road: If business isn’t concluded on Saturday, this is the pre-set second day of the meeting.For details, see dedicated post and other related coverage.
