The week in sports: Winning season for Hockey, Boys Swimming, and Girls Basketball

On Thursday, the Algonquin Ski Team competed in races at Ski Ward. The Girls came in first (with 2 skiers in the top 10 individuals) and the Boys placed 4th.

At this point in ARHS Athletics’ winter season, Boys Swimming/Diving is the Gonk team with the best record. They’ve won each of their seven official meets this season. That includes last week’s wins over Nashoba (134-20) and Wachusett (98-64).

On the flip side, the Girls Swimming/Diving team has been flailing this season with a 0-7 record. Still, there have been individual successes for team members. And the Telegram’s coverage of the team’s losses to Nashoba 37-107 and Wachusett 58-86 last week indicate that at least one of the swimmers will be heading to States.

Girls Ice Hockey has racked up the most wins for Gonk so far this winter (8), and is technically undefeated. Their match against Franklin yesterday ended in their second tie of the season (1-1).

Boys Hockey v Hopkinton tweeted by @ARHSAthleticsBoys Ice Hockey had a week that perfectly reflects their season. The Boys have won 2/3 of their 9 games to date. Last week, they beat Hopkinton 6-1, lost to Shrewsbury 2-4, then beat Minnechaug Regional 3-1.

Girls Basketball v Fitchburg tweeted by @ARHSAthleticsGirls Basketball is on a four game winning streak. Last week, they beat Leominster 46-41 and Fitchburg 62-40. They’re now at 5-1. Keeping the streak going will require beating undefeated Wachusett tonight.

Meanwhile, the Boys have been on the other side of the streak. Last week, they added two more to their loss column (Leominster 31-53 and Fitchburg 54-66), bringing their record to 4-4.

Wrestling v N Middlesex tweeted by @ARHSAthleticsWrestling beat North Middlesex 39-30 last week.

No results are posted for Saturday’s scheduled Wrestling Tri-Meet or for Girls Indoor Track Meet vs Shepherd Hill that day. Boys Indoor Track is 0-3 after losing to Shepherd Hill 41-50. Gymnastics is at 2-3 after its recent loss to Medfield 138.150-139.4
