Southborough Democratic Caucus – February 9 (Update)

Southborough Democrats are invited to attend the the party’s virtual caucus a week from today to help elect delegates to the state convention this summer.

Here is there announcement:

Southborough to Elect Delegates to Democratic State Nominating Convention

Registered Democrats in Southborough will hold a Zoom virtual caucus at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, February 9.

2022 is an election year, so Democrats are gathering to elect delegates to a nominating convention. The convention will determine whether announced candidates will be on the ballot by garnering the support of 15% of elected delegates.

The caucus is open to the public, and the Democrats in attendance can stand for election, nominate others, and vote to elect delegates and alternates to the 2022 Massachusetts Democratic State Convention, which will take place Friday and Saturday, June 3rd and 4th at the DCU Center in Worcester (with a virtual option in case of the next Covid wave).

Those who wish to attend should register for the Zoom call at Register in advance for this meeting [here].

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with information about joining the meeting. If you’d like to have a vote but are not yet registered as a Democrat, you may register, pre-register, or change your party registration [here].

We Massdems are committed to wide small-d representation of all Americans, so we have a process for members of underrepresented groups to become delegates even if they’re not elected by the caucus. This is the delegate add-on process, which is built to reach out to youth, minorities, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ people.

Any Democrats who want to get involved with the Southborough Town Committee can contact the chair, Kelly Roney, at 508.380.0597 or visit our Facebook page or Twitter account, @Southboro_Dems.

Just wanted to update: There’s high interest from state-wide and local candidates to make very brief speeches. If you’re interested, that part of the meeting will be first.

Correcting myself, not Beth:

The Democratic caucus Zoom will open at 6:30 pm, and speeches will take place between 6:30 and 7:00. I have 11 candidates tentatively lined up to speak, for no more than three minutes. Given time constraints, I will not be able to let the candidates take questions.

The caucus proper will begin at 7:00. Southborough Democrats will be electing 6 delegates and 4 alternates.
