I’ve learned that the Southborough Cultural Arts Council is in desperate need for volunteers.

Currently the group is down to three members. Without new blood, they risk losing funding from the state, which means we miss out on opportunities to have local arts events/programs funded in/for our community.

SCAC is the Southborough chapter of the Mass Cultural Council-Local Cultural Council. The website for SCAC explains:

The largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, the Mass Cultural Council-Local Cultural Council (LCC) Program, enriches the cultural life of all cities and towns in Massachusetts. Led by municipally appointed volunteers, LCCs award over $4 million every year, supporting 6,000 cultural programs that include everything from field trips to lectures, festivals, and dance performances.

Decisions about which activities to support for Southborough are made by a board of resident volunteers appointed by selectmen. To help them with their mission, and the next round of applications this fall, sign up to join them.

SCAC Grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities in Southborough – including exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies, performances in schools, workshops, and lectures.

SCAC Grants that were announced in February allotted $4300 to support:

  • Algonquin Regional High School – Power of a Personal Story
  • Art on the Trails
  • Assabet Valley Mastersingers
  • Northborough Area Community Chorus
  • Westborough Community Chorus
  • Discovery Museum – Open Door Connections
