Informational update from ARHS: The loss of an 11th grade student

Dear ARHS community,

I am writing to share some very sad news with you: Jon Niemi, an 11th grade student, died unexpectedly but peacefully today. Jon’s two siblings are enrolled at Melican Middle School. Our hearts go out to the Niemi family as they grieve the loss of their cherished son and brother.

I am writing to share this sad news with you, both because you are a member of the Algonquin community and because this loss may impact your family. Those who may have known Jon will experience with full force the loss of a friend or neighbor. Still, others may be reminded of the death of a close friend or family member.

The ARHS Crisis Team has convened to identify ways to support students and staff impacted by this great loss, especially those that were closest to Jon. Additionally, our counseling staff will be available on Monday and throughout the week to support any students that may struggle. Please alert your child’s guidance counselor if you think they would benefit from a check-in on Monday or at any time this week.

Please keep the Niemi family in your thoughts at this most difficult time.

Sincerely,
Sean Bevan
Principal, ARHS
