The School Committee and Select Board plan to appoint one of three candidates to the vacant seat.

On Tuesday night, the Select Board and Southborough School Committee will hold a special joint meeting. The purpose is to fill the vacancy on the School Committee.

The interim member will be filling the seat of late member Kim Tolander who unexpectedly died in August.

According to the posted agendas, three candidates have applied to fill the interim seat:

  • Jessica Devine
  • Zhi Li
  • Johanna Sheyner

The interviews will be conducted on December 6th at 6:30 pm. The meeting will take place in the Town House hearing room but also be available for remote participation/streaming. Following the interviews, the board and committee will vote to appoint someone to fill the post until the Town Election on May 9th.

So far, a packet with applicants’ letters of interest and resumes hasn’t been posted. You can check to see if one is posted prior to the meeting here.

I can note that the first name on the list, Jessica Devine, is a former School Committee member from 2018-2021. Kim Tolander took over her seat that spring in an unopposed election after Devine declared she wouldn’t be running for re-election.

Updated (12/6/22 10:54 am): The packet has since been posted (here) for tonight’s meeting. Information on the applicants makes up the first few pages.
