School Committee policy changes

At the recent Combined School Committees Meeting, committee members held the “first reading” of new/revised policies that impact students and staff members. More “first readings” are scheduled for this week’s meeting of the Southborough School Committee.

Since this is the period during which the public can comment about any concerns they have with the polices (or language), I’m sharing the details with readers.

The comment period for the policies is officially until a 2nd reading is conducted at a future meeting.

Initially, the meeting agendas were posted without any way for the public to view the policies. I followed up with the administration. This morning they uploaded all of the links to the relevant page on the District’s website.

Below are the topics that policies under consideration for adoption or revision.

Regional School Committee:

  • New policy for adoption:
    • Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Free Workplace Policy
  • Revisions to existing policy:
    • Drug and Alcohol Policy
    • Head Injury and Concussion Policy
    • Wellness Policy

Southborough School Committee:

The Southborough School Committee policies mostly covers the same topics. There are also two policies that simply clean up language based on the Public Comment policy approved last December. (Currently, a separate policy outlines Audience Sharing procedures and another one points readers to that policy instead of the one adopted more recently.)

  • New policy for adoption:
    • Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Free Workplace Policy
    • Alcohol, Tobacco and Drug Policy
  • Revisions to existing policy:
    • Alcohol, Tobacco and Drug Policy
    • Conduct of School Committee Meetings
    • Head Injury and Concussion Policy
    • School Committee Meetings
    • Wellness Policy
