Boys Ice Hockey won their season opener this weekend. The Telegram recapped their 7-6 win over Groton Dunstable, “Andrew Hodge scored three goals, including an end-to-end goal late in the third to lift the Titans.”

ARHS Athletics tweeted two exciting moments:

On Wednesday, they’ll compete in the annual 4-school “Borough’s Cup” tournament. (Algonquin last won the cup in 2018.) The Titans will face off against Marlborough in the first round. Depending on the outcome of that night’s game, they’ll move on to play either Westborough or Wachusett on Saturday night.

Algonquin Basketball had a rough entry to the season. Both varsity teams lost to Shepherd Hill on Friday. The Girls lost their away game, 38-48 and the Boys their home game 46-69.

On Thursday, in their first regular season meets at Gardener, Boys Swimming won (96-45) but the Girls lost (60-83). The Telegram recapped some individual accomplishments for the Titans. For the Boys:

Branden Yan won the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke and teammate David Huynh captured the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle

For the Girls:

Katelyn Huynh won the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke and teammate Mina Chung claimed the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke.

Wrestling competed in a tri-meet on Saturday. Gonk Wrestlers beat Holyoke 60-12 but were bested by Holliston (39-42) and St. John’s (27-51). The school tweeted some standout individual accomplishments:

Freshman Eyal Shemer went 2-1, sophomore Paulo Knapp went 3-0, senior captain Rafael Knapp 3-0, and senior captain Kaz Conway 3-0.

At Sunday’s Mass State Track Coaches Association’s Winterfest, Algonquin placed 5th in the High Jump for both Girls and Boys — seniors Elena Westphal and Drew Mason. (You can see the full results for the competition, which also included the Shot Put, here.)

This weekend, both teams plan to return to the Reggie Lewis Track Center to compete in running and long jump events at MSTCA’s Speed Classic.

This week Titans Girls Ice Hockey and Gymnastics will compete in their season openers.
