Food fun for kids at the Library (Updated)

Cupcake Decorating, Rainbow Food pinwheels, and other upcoming programs

The Southborough Library is taking advantage of its state grant* to offer more food/cooking related programs.

A free “Cupcake Decorating” event next week will be followed by three more special youth events in April.

The first event next week doesn’t require registration:

Cupcake Decorating flyerCupcake Decorating — for ages 12-18
Thursday, March 16, Wednesday, March 22, 4:00 – 5:00 pm, Eaton Room

Decorate a fancy cupcake and enjoy your delicious result. (The flyer notes that cupcakes will be decorated in animal theme with help from a professional.)

For the following events, space is limited. Pre-registration is required by emailing msorensen@southboroughma.com. (Tools used in the events below were funded by The Friends of the Southborough Library.)

Rainbow Food Pinwheels —  for ages 5-7 with parents/guardians
Saturday, April 1, 1:00 – 2:00 pm, Eaton Room

Led by a professional children’s cooking instructor. Paired with a parent or guardian, kids will create beautiful bites out of a wrap, a nut or seed butter, and colorful fruits. They will do the same with hummus or cream cheese and colorful vegetables. Roll it up, slice it, and see the beauty inside!

Young Food Explorers —  for ages 4-7 with parents/guardians
Saturday, May 13, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm, Eaton Room

Led by young picky eaters, kids will get to explore the sight, texture, smell, sound, temperature and taste of various foods without placing any pressure to eat it! Adults can learn how to continue the exercise at home to ease the tension around mealtimes.

Taco Party — for ages 9-11
Saturday, May 13, 1:00 – 2:00 pm, Eaton Room

Come enjoy making tacos at the library, led by a professional children’s cooking instructor! Kids will work in pairs and create their own taco feast with guacamole, salsa, beans, cheese and lettuce. They will practice knife skills, mashing, seasoning and assembling.

*All of the events are part of the series made possible with grant funds from the Library Services & Technology Act distributed by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

Updated (3/16/23 5:45 pm): The cupcake event had to be postponed to March 22nd.

Updated (4/4/23 2:51 pm): The Young Food Explorers and Taco Party events were rescheduled from April 29th to May 13th.
