The start of the season has been rough or rocky for some of Algonquin’s varsity teams. But not for Lacrosse. The Boys and Girls teams each racked up second and third wins.
I’m also updating on some Southborough natives making sports headlines.
As any basketball (or gambling) fan knows, UConn came out on top in the Men’s March Madness NCAA tournament for the first time since 2014. Southborough native (and former Algonquin student) Alex Karaban continued to draw media attention for his contributions to the Huskies. You can watch WCVB’s coverage here.
A reader also brought to my attention a native who recently entered professional sports. Henry Thrun of Southborough (and a former St. Mark’s School student) joined the San Diego Sharks. You can read about his debut NHL game on March 30th here, and an update from the Sharks coach on his hockey success/potential here.

In Lacrosse, the Boys beat Shrewsbury 16-3 and Wachusett 13-5. (Click here to see the Telegram’s Photos from the Wachusett game.) The Girls beat Shrewsbury 10-9 and Wachusett 20-10.
Outdoor Track teams beat Shrewsbury in their first meets this season. (The Boys 85-60 and Girls 82-63.)
Girls Golf (a co-op team based out of Westborough) beat Wachusett 33-21, improving their record to 1-1.
Girls Tennis won its first two matches, 5-0 vs Marlborough and 4-1 vs Hudson. Boys Tennis won two matches (5-0 vs Marlborough and 3-2 vs Shephard Hill) but also lost to St. John’s 3-2.
Girls Rugby won their season opener 15-7 over Brookline. The Boys lost theirs to Lincoln-Sudbury 34-36.
Baseball lost its first home game 6-5 to St. John’s, updating their record to 1-1.
Softball badly lost its first two games and Boys Volleyball its first three.
