Obituary: Edward Charles Wickham, 83

Edward C. Wickham, 83, of Spencer, formerly of Southborough, died Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at his home after a long illness. He was the devoted husband of Ruth A.L. (Groneck) Wickham for 62 years.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he was the son of the late Henry L. and Pauline (Lindenlaub) Wickham. He was also predeceased by his aunt, Virginia Lindenlaub and his grandson, Jacob E. Messersmith.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, Kathleen West and her husband William of Hebron, NH, Jeanne LaFlash and her companion Tom Johnson of Wheelwright, MA, Edward Wickham II of Hardwick, MA, Mary Whitla and her husband Randall of Leicester, MA and Michael Wickham and his wife Noemi of Nolensville, TN and his sister, Marilyn Kessler of Ballwin, MO.

Ed also leaves his grandchildren, Rachel Messersmith Collins, Thomas Messersmith, Jared Whitla, Cole Whitla, Benjamin LaFlash, Kelly Wickham, Isabella Wickham, Angelina Wickham and Jack Wickham as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ed Attended St. Louis University and began his career as a mathematician at Emerson Electric. He then worked as a computer analyst in sales and was a project manager at Honeywell Bull for 40 years with his job requiring him to travel to places like Phoenix, AZ, Iowa and Paris, France.

His most cherished hobby was flying, taking off most weekends in either a Piper Cub or Cessna to explore the skies.

His other hobbies included golfing, hiking with his family on Sundays, biking and swimming. He also spent many adventure weekends with his buddies white water rafting in Maine.

While living in Southborough, Ed was a longtime eucharistic minister at St. Anne Church in Southborough.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Morris-Johnston Funeral Home, 40 Main Street, Southborough, MA, 01772. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 10:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 121 Blaine Avenue, East Brookfield, MA 01515. Burial will follow at Southborough Rural Cemetery, 11 Cordaville Road, Southborough, MA 01772.
