George C. Stagno of Southborough, MA, formerly of Hanover, MA, passed away on June 21, 2023, at the age of 78 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

George was born on December 27, 1944, in the North End of Boston and graduated from Boston College High School in 1962 and from the Air Force Academy in 1967. He met his wife Mary while serving four years in the Air Force, stationed in Omaha, Nebraska. He later joined the Air Force Reserves, and retired after 25 years of service.

George was the son of Ignacio and Elena Stagno and the devoted husband of Mary (Gratto) Stagno for 52 years. He is survived by his brothers Domenic Stagno and husband Leo, Edward Stagno and wife Jewel, his son Christopher Stagno and wife Alyssa of Sudbury, MA, daughter Lisa Bagley and husband Timothy of Wayland, MA, and son Mark Stagno and wife Stephanie of Southborough, MA. George is loved by his six grandchildren: Matthew, Katelyn, Andrew, Natalie, Will and Cole.

George had a long career as a software sales executive before embarking on a second career as a high school math teacher, primarily at Pembroke High School. George coached his children’s sports teams for many years and later coached high school varsity soccer and lacrosse teams. An avid reader of history, he carried a deep pride for his Air Force Academy roots and the friendships he made there.

Among George’s favorite activities was attending his grandchildren’s sports, music, dance and school events. He was proud to participate in and witness their growth, and offered math and computer science advice along the way. His creativity for bedtime storytelling began with his young cousins and continued with his children and grandchildren. In retirement George was active in his church, regularly volunteering his time at St. Anne Church as the Parish Office Manager.

George will be remembered for his tireless work ethic, his countless home improvement projects, and his devotion to his family and his church.
