I previously shared news that the Southborough Library would be holding an Eco-Friends program as part of their Summer Reading program for teens and tweens. The first meeting of the club is this afternoon, and more details are available. They include an upcoming virtual talk with a “Cookbook Author and Sustainability Warrior”.

The discussion group is for ages 12+ this afternoon on the Library’s main floor each Wednesday from 4:00 – 5:00 pm. If you can’t make the first one, don’t worry, you can still join them weekly through August 16th.

Eco-Friends flyerThe group invites “those who care about our environment and are looking for ways to make a difference!” You can sign up on the registration page here to receive updates and club materials.

Participants don’t have to already be knowledgeable about the topic. Members will discuss” a variety of books, articles, and other types of media that focus on how to be environmentally conscious and share actionable steps on how to help the planet.”

Discussion topics will include:

  • Animals
  • Climate Change
  • Conservation
  • Nature
  • Sustainable Cooking
  • Sustainable Swaps

A bulletin board at the Library is focused on the Eco-Friend efforts with relevant information and tips. It includes a flyer promoting an upcoming event that may interest group members the “Virtual Author Talk with Lindsay-Jean Hard, Cookbook Author and Sustainability Warrior”. The Wednesday, July 26th event will take place 7:00 – 8:00 pm over zoom:

Do you feel bad about throwing away (or even composting) food scraps that could be used? Well, feel guilty no more! Author Lindsay-Jean Hard will teach us how we can make use of scraps, keep them out of landfills, and still have enough for the compost pile! Pulling from her book “Cooking with Scraps”, Lindsay-Jean will answer questions about minimizing food wastage.

The event is a collaboration with a multitude of MA libraries, sponsored by the Friends of the Ashland Public Library. You can register here.

Anyone with questions can contact organizing staff member, Marianna Sorensen with at msorensen@southboroughma.com.
