Audition for Broadway themed musical revue

A new community theater in the Boroughs is inviting Southborough residents to audition for their first production.

It has been years since the curtains went down on community theater groups in the Boroughs.* Now a new organization looking to raise them with a production in Westborough this fall. They are inviting Southborough residents to audition next week.

Curtains Up Theater is a new community theater group for the Metrowest region. Director Tiffany Steinke and Producer Alexis Nodiff began establishing the non-profit in 2022. Their mission states the organization is:

dedicated to fostering an inclusive space where stories can come to life through music and theater. We strive to inspire creativity, promote self-expression, and celebrate the transformative power of the performing arts within our community. Together, we aim to raise the curtain on a world of imagination, connection, and shared experiences.

The group’s first production will be a “Regards to Broadway” musical revue November 18th and 19th at The Willows senior living complex in Westborough.

To audition, you must be at least 18 years old. Pre-book a timeslot here for Tuesday, September 12 and Thursday, the 14th between 8:00 – 10:00 pm.

Those auditioning are asked to “prepare 32 bars of a song that shows off your voice in the style of musical theater.” A note qualifies:

We will not have a live accompanist at auditions, so please let us know if you will be bringing your own music track to hook up to our sound system via blue tooth/USB or send us your track at curtainuptheater@gmail.com after you have chosen an audition time slot.

The auditions will take place at Skyrise Theater, 76 Otis Street Westborough, MA 01581. Production rehearsals will take place twice weekly.

According to Curtain’s Up’s blog, Skyrise owners Tania and Zac Taylor have promised to hold their hands through this first venture. In addition to co-running Skyrise for the past 13 years, Tania apparently has deep roots in local community theater, having pretty much grown up on stage with the Southborough Players.*

You can read more about the play and the group here.

*The Southborough Players community theater group dropped their curtains in 2009 after 40 years of entertaining. 2017 was the last time the Westborough Players put on a show, and I haven’t seen anything for Northborough or Marlborough in the time I’ve been running this blog. (Community Choruses on the other hand are still active all around us.)
