Here are highlights of what’s happening around (or related to) our town this weekend through next weekend.

  • Goat Hangout and Ramble (9:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: (Formerly called “Hike with Goats”.) Your reservation gets you and your group of family or friends an hour-long experience with a friendly goat on its own harness and leash. For details, click here.
  • Sit & Knit (2:00 – 4:00pm) @ Southborough Library: Biweekly program for ages 18+ to drop in and work on your latest knitting or crochet projects while you enjoy the company of fellow yarn crafters in a relaxed social setting. All levels are welcome but no formal instruction will be given.
  • Finding Fungi Guided Mushroom Hike (1:00 – 2:30 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: A family friendly guided hike. Pre-registration (and fee) required. For details, see related post.

  • Shannon’s Path Dog Walk and Fun Run 2023 (10:00 am) @ Neary School Campus, 53 Parkerville Road: 2nd annual 5K dog walk benefiting rare cancer research and care in memory of Shannon McDonald. No dogs are required and runners are welcome. . For details, see dedicated post.
  • Blessing of the Animals (4:00 pm) @ St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 27 Main St: Annual Blessing of the Animals. Event includes pony rides and “Chat with a Vet”. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Trottier Middle School’s outdoor track: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Preschool Story Time (10:30 – 11:15 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: Ages 2-5 are invited for stories and a craft based on a weekly theme. No registration required. For details, see related post.

  • ARHS College Fair (6:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Algonquin Regional High School, 79 Bartlett St, Northborough: Algonquin will be hosting representatives colleges and universities for their Post Secondary College Fair. All students and parents are welcome!
  • Southborough Rotary Club (7:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, main floor: Regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Southborough. New and prospective members are always welcome. (Held on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month.)

  • Mah Jongg (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: The weekly program would love new players to join. Feel free to stop by to watch or talk to one of the players to see if you would be interested. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Preschool Farm Explorers (10:00 – 11:00 am) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: For ages 2 years 9 months to 5 years old, Adult supervision required. Pre-registration (and fee) required. (discount for younger siblings and free for siblings under 1.) Little farm explorers will become immersed in what life is like at Chestnut Hill. Each session has a different theme. (Offered weekly.)   • Baby/Toddler Storytime (11:00 – 11:45 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: A weekly program for ages 0-2 years with their parents/caregivers. Each session will include puppets and music. No registration required. For details, see related post.
  • Drop-in Lego Building (3:30 – 4:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, Eaton Room: Children are invited to build with Legos and display their creations in the Children’s Room. Legos will be provided. Parents or caregivers must stay with children..
  • Tech Time (4:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, Teen Room: Weekly drop-in session to get help from a librarian or teen volunteer. Learn about the Library’s apps and databases, get guidance on your devices, and have tech questions answered.
  • Fall Rustic Box workshop (6:30 pm) @ Gulbankian Florist Shop, 40 Mt Vickery Rd: DIY floral decor workshop. There is a fee for the event, space is limited, and pre-registration is required. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Pumpkin Stroll drop-off (4:00 – 6:00 pm) @ Common Street: Drop-off your carved or decorated contributions to the pumpkin display on the stone wall around the Old Burial Grounds. For details, stay tuned for dedicated post.
  • Pumpkin Stroll (6:00 – 8:00 pm) @ line up begins in front of 25 Main Street: The community is invited to view the big display of jack-o-lanterns lined up on the stone wall around the Old Burial Ground. The annual event is hosted by Southborough Rotary, whose members will be collecting specific items for the Food Pantry. For details, stay tuned for dedicated post.

Heritage Day, Monday, October 9, 2023

  • State holiday (for Columbus Day / Indigenous People’s Day): No public school. Town offices, Senior Center, and Library are closed.
  • Golf Fore ALS @ Southborough Golf Club: All long weekend, $10 from each player’s greens fees will go to ALS research and care. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Heritage Day (10:00 am – 2:00 pm) on the St. Mark’s field (at the intersection of routes 30 & 85) and nearby locations: The the annual town celebration of our community. While it honors the town’s history, it is rooted in the present, bringing together different segments of the community. For details, see dedicated thread, and stay tuned for more details.
    • Parade (10:00 am) departs from St. Anne’s Church on Boston Road, proceeds down Main Street, ending at Marlborough Road and St. Mark’s Street: Participants include officials, veterans, school bands, youth groups, and many community groups. (To register your group to march, click here.)
    • Friends of Southborough Library Book & Bake Sale (10:00 am – 3:00 pm) @ Southborough Library parking lot: One free book per child. Selling used hardcover and paperback fiction and non-fiction books, DVDs, and CDs. There will also be a Bake Sale table.

Updated (10/5/23 9:10 am): I removed a link from the Dull Men’s Club which led to an old 2021 story when the group was still meeting over zoom. As indicated in their calendar listing, they are (and have long been) meeting in person weekly at the Senior Center.
