Chestnut Hill Farm this Winter (Updated)

Above: Here’s what’s happening at Chestnut Hill Farm this January and February. (images edited from Trustees images**)

Chestnut Hill Farm programming has been scaled back this winter.* But there are still events worth highlighting.

Trustees Reindeer Quest at Chestnut Hill Farm from FacebookAs I’ve previously posted, Reindeer Quest is back at the farm and will continue through January 14th. [Note: It appears that has been extended through the end of the month.]

That free activity, tracking down the farm’s “Reindeers” on the trail doesn’t require registration. (Click here for details.)

But there are two events that do require advance signup. One is coming up soon, and the other annual event is several weeks away but always fills up well in advance.

Below are the basic details. Click links for the full descriptions (or visit here for all of their events including two in March.)

These events include a fee. (The fees listed below are by Trustees’ member/non-member. You can find membership details here.)

Family Walk and Learn: Campfire Building & Cooking
All ages

Sunday, January 14th, 11:00 am – 12:30 pm

This family friendly program for all ages will introduce you to fire building without matches and how to use that fire to make hot rock cocoa to warm up in the January chill. We’ll also enjoy a leisurely walk through the winter woods, so dress in layers and wear shoes appropriate for hiking on uneven and possibly frozen terrain. ($12-15/$20-25)

Maple Tap-a-thon
All ages

Sunday, February 25th (if conditions are right), choose 10:00 – 11:30 am or 12:30 – 2:00 pm

Note: Trustees qualify that they may need to postpone this event to a later date “if tapping conditions aren’t ideal, due to the unpredictable nature of weather.”

This special family event is led by a Trustees ranger who will show us how to identify maple trees on the farm and share the history of tapping as we learn about how maple sap runs. Each family group will set their own tap to get the farm’s maple flowing! You’ll go home with instructions on how to tap your own maple trees and make your own syrup. ($12-15/$20-25)

For each of the Chestnut Hill Farm programs:

  • For the most up-to-date information or weather cancellations for this and other programs, follow Chestnut Hill Farm’s Facebook page.
  • Because it is a working farm, dogs aren’t permitted on the property.

*The Trustees cancelled their preschool and other weekly/frequent programs at the farm this fall after their Education Manager left. No word yet on a replacement being hired.

Updated (1/23/24 12:08 pm): Reindeer Quest is now listed on the website through January 31st.
