The week in sports

At this point this winter, several Algonquin varsity teams currently have an even number of wins and losses, or close to it. But two Titans teams can still boast they are undefeated.

And looking back to last season, MetroWest Daily News included some Algonquin students on their All Star Teams published last week for fall sports.

Algonquin Boys Swimming is still undefeated after five meets. On Thursday, they beat Tyngsborough 90-42. Girls Swimming also beat the school 93-55, improving their record to 3-2.

ARHS Gymnastics competed in what was only their second meet of the season on Saturday. They came out undefeated with a win over Westborough.

Girls Ice Hockey were shutout by Pope Francis 2-0 on Saturday. They now stand at 3-3. This weekend, they’ll travel to Martha’s Vineyard to play in a tourney.

Yesterday, the Community Advocate highlighted the Boys Ice Hockey team’s interesting bonds with five sets of brothers. You can read about that here. The team may have turned a corner. After a rocky start, they now can boast 3 wins in a row. The Titans beat Auburn 4-3 and Nashoba 6-1. (You can see highlight pics from the Nashoba match here.) They now stand at 4-3-1.

In contrast, Boys Basketball is on a 4-game losing streak after losses to Westborough (70-78) and Shrewsbury (50-58). Their record is now 2-6. Girls Basketball had another uneven week, beating Westborough (56-41) but losing to Shrewsbury (32-42). They now stand at 4-4.

Gonk Wrestling appears to be having a tough season. Nashoba beat them on Wednesday, 44-36. On Saturday, Natick shut them out in their Wrestling Duals.

The Ski team’s season start was delayed a week. They’ll enter their first race of the season this Thursday.

As for the fall All Stars, Metrowest Daily News selected the following Titans to honor. (Click links for stories with details about their accomplishments):
