The latest news from the Town’s “Word on the Common Street”

Above: The DPW said its thanks to a retiring worker in a fitting way, and the Town issued another newsletter. (photo cropped from Facebook)

Last Friday, the Dept of Public Works congratulated George Mooney on his retirement after “34 years of service”. That is just one of the highlights in the Town’s newest newsletter, published today.

The DPW asked me to share the news from their Facebook post (and I’m delinquent in doing that). They wrote:

Can’t express how appreciative everyone who had the opportunity to work and learn under and along side of George. He was always the first guy “in the hole” and the last one out. No matter if it was Cemetery, Water or Highway work he was always first to help.

Countless snowstorms, microbursts, salting call-outs, potholes, downed trees, severe rainstorms, cemetery burrials were always handled in a professional and efficient manner over his three plus decades.

Many laughs were shared and all the while never letting co-workers forget that we, the DPW, are out there to keep the public safe.

Thank you for both your service to the townspeople and the laughs over the years.
