The week in sports

Here are Algonquin Titans latest results and highlights, how well they ranked in the MIAA’s Power Rankings, and the schedule for the week.

At the MSTCA Northeast Invitational, Indoor Track‘s Steve White won the Boys 1 Mile race. The Boston Herald covered the exciting race:

In a meet with more than 3,000 competitors over the next three days at the Reggie Lewis Center, it’s doubtful anyone will shatter their personal best as much as White obliterated his.

Read the dramatic details (and see the great pic) here.

You can see the overall competition results for both Boys & Girls here. (For meets earlier in the week, the teams post on their page the  performances for each athlete, but not how they fared versus other schools.) This weekend, the teams will compete in Division 2 Relays.

The MIAA Power Rankings were posted for Basketball and Hockey on Friday morning and updated today. None of Algonquin’s teams are high on the list.

Titans Girls Basketball are currently ranked #38 for Division 1, with a 4-5 record. On Friday, they lost to Wachusett 70-30.

Boys Basketball by Owen Jones PhotographyBoys Basketball beat Wachusett 57-50 on Friday, helping raise their ranking 4 spots to #43 in Division 1. (Check out photos here.) Their record is now 3-6 this season.

Last week, the Harbinger covered the team’s new coach this season, John Stockton, and his one game at a time approach. You can read that here.

Last Wednesday, Boys Ice Hockey tied Marlborough 3-3. (You can check out photos here.) On Saturday, they beat Minnechaug 8-0, which helped them move up a notch in the Division 2 Rankings to #18. Their record is 5-3-2.

Monday of last week, Girls Hockey beat Natick 2-0. (Both the Community Advocate and Metrowest Daily News covered the game.) At an invitational over the weekend, they lost to St. Mary’s Lynn 4-3 in the first round but won the consolation game 4-0 over Martha’s Vineyard. They currently stand at 5-4. They are the Titan’s highest ranked team at #10, (up from 18 on Friday morning).

On Friday, ARHS Gymnastics came in 2nd place in a 3-way competition. Groton-Dunstable won with a score of 140.1. But Gonk’s 135.1 beat Marlborough’s 131.35.

Other teams that are based on individual athletes’ skills are harder to find results for, but I did find some news.

On Thursday, Boys Swimming beat Shrewsbury 121-48. The Girls lost 93-66. No results have been posted for either team’s meets against Worcester on Friday.

Wrestling 1/13/24 by Owen Jones PhotographyIn their second at home meet, Algonquin Wrestling beat Quabbin 57-24 on Wednesday. The Harbinger covered the action here. Photographer Owen Jones captured photo highlights from a multi-school meet this weekend, but no results were posted.

Alpine Ski 1/11/24 by Owen Jones PhotographyThere have also been no results posted for Alpine Ski‘s first race last week, but Jones did capture some photo highlights.

Now, here are the ARHS varsity games on tap for the week:
