Election & Candidates’ Night Update (Updated)

Q&A for candidates competing for Select Board only

Candidate Joanna Sheyner has withdrawn her name from the Town ballot. That means that there is no longer a race for the Southborough seat on the Regional School Committee.

As a result, the panel of two Select Board candidates will be the only Q&A segment at the Candidate’s Night on Thursday, April 25th.

(That presumes that neither Andrew Dennington or Joseph Palmer withdraws between now and 5:00 pm this Friday.)

As I’ve previously shared, the event will be held at Cordaville Hall (aka the Southborough Senior Center).

It is hosted by the Trustees of the Southborough Library. However, the event won’t be held in the Library. Here is their updated invite:

The Trustees of the Southborough Library will hold their annual “Candidates’ Night” at the Cordaville Hall, 9 Cordaville Road, Southborough on Thursday evening, April 25, 2024. This event gives Southborough voters a chance to meet the candidates, ask questions and get answers. All candidates running for election or re-election in the Annual Town Election have been invited.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a “Meet & Greet” session for the public and all candidates for office. The moderated program will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. with statements and a “Q&A” session with candidates for the contested races for one position on the Select Board. Candidates in uncontested races will be recognized and are encouraged to attend. Library Trustee and Event Organizer Janet Maney will serve as Moderator. Refreshments will be available. . .

“Candidates’ Night” is an important civic program, part of the Library’s mission to be “the center for life-long learning at the crossroads of our community.”

The annual Town election is on Tuesday, May 14th.

For those who may be wondering, the two remaining candidates for the Southborough seat on the Regional School Committee are Kathleen Harragan Polutchko (incumbent) and Jennifer Primack (whose term on the Southborough School Committee is ending).

(As far as I know, there is still a race for the Northborough candidates. But they won’t have a Q&A panel at the Southborough event.)

While I’m sharing this news, I’ll remind that the deadline to apply for a Vote by Mail Ballot is May 7th.

If you aren’t registered to vote in Southborough, that deadline has already passed by for this election. But it’s not too late to register so that you can vote in the state primary on September 3rd. (You can do that here.)

[Editor’s Note to the Candidates: I welcome one letter from each candidate. (It will only be run once as a story, so choose your timing. But it will be linked in coverage leading up to the election.) You can submit those between now and the evening of May 8th. Letters, a photo, and any questions can be emailed to mysouthborough@gmail.com.]

Updated (4/9/24 2:56 pm): I had forgotten to update the invite from the Trustees based on the event changes.
