The downtown art studio, Apothecary Artists, is inviting the public to an unusually interactive art reception this weekend.

The reception will celebrate the exhibit “Visions of Landscapes and Romanticism” by artist Gary Smith. An announcement highlights that Smith’s:

intention is to create artwork that pleases the eye and inspires the viewer

Painting by Gary Smith (contributed)The invite also shares that Smith prefers “to work in oils and create my colors through a series of pure oil glazes.” However, that clearly relates to his paintings — which aren’t the artist’s only medium.

Smith is also known for his self-produced comic books “The Doe-Nild” and “Tales of J’lleen”.

And at Saturday’s event, he’ll apparently be putting pencil to paper, with “live drawing demos”.

Smith’s reception from 6:00 – 8:00 pm this Saturday, May 16th. It will be held in the gallery at 11 Main Street.

Smith’s work has been exhibited in Hartford, Mystic, and Milford, CT.; Springfield, Amherst, Pittsfield, Northampton, Westfield, Easthampton, and The Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA.

You can check out examples of his works to be displayed, posted on his Facebook page here.
