Last year, Southborough parents worked with Southborough Recreation and an NFL youth program to launch a co-ed, no-contact Flag Football league for local kids in grades 3–8. The low commitment, weekly opportunity is returning this fall.
And this year, Rec is also adding a feeder skills clinic for kids in grades 1-2.
Both programs will take place at Choate Field in front of Woodward School on Sunday afternoons for one hour. The dates are September 13th through November 8th (except for October 11th). The last day will feature playoffs and a Championship Game.
Registration for this fall’s programs, including both Flag Football options, opens today!

We are SUPER excited to partnering with the NFL once again for the second year of our Flag Football League and present our version of Sunday Football!
All participants will receive an authentic NFL Flag Football Jersey and Flag Belt (participants should bring cleats, water, and mouth guard).
All abilities and boys/girls in grades 3-8 are welcome! This will be a low commitment & fun way to play football this fall.
The first 30 minutes of each block will be skills & drills followed by a 30-minute game!
Program times are a based on age groups:
- 12:00 –1:00 pm, Grades 3-4
- 1:00-2:00 pm, Grades 5-6
- 2:00-3:00 pm, Grades 7-8
Space is limited, so register here soon. Rec is also advertising the need for volunteer coaches. (Learn more by emailing recreation@southboroughma.com.)
Rec’s fall/winter program catalogue indicates the program is led by High Point Athletics, the same group running the clinic for younger players.
You can read last year’s post sharing info from parents about why they believed in bringing the opportunity to town here. (You can also read about the difference between the Flag Football program and Northborough/Southborough Youth Football’s “Flex Football” program here.)
Flag Football Skills Clinic for Grades 1-2
The clinics, run by High Point Athletics, will meet from 2:00 – 3:00 pm.
On their website, Rec promotes:
Our Flag Football Program is all about fast-paced fun and skill development in a safe, non-contact environment. Players build fundamentals like passing, catching, route running, and defensive positioning through drills, scrimmages, and exciting game play. Students also develop teamwork, confidence, communication, and leadership while learning strategy and improving decision-making. It’s the perfect place to stay active, make friends, and grow your love for the game.
This is the perfect intro to Flag Football program that will prepare 1st and 2nd graders for our NFL Flag in future years.
