If you haven’t walked Art on the Trails yet this summer, time is running out. The annual closing ceremony takes place a week from Sunday.
The event will take place September 13th from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Beals Preserve.
Between now and then, the public is welcome to visit the exhibit for free, daily from dawn to dusk. (Click here for my prior post with the map and details and here for more details about this year’s Neary student project.)
As usual, the closing ceremony will feature poetry. The ceremony is a guided walk along the trail, stopping by each exhibit for selected poets to read aloud their works inspired by the installation.
Earlier this summer, organizers of the outdoor exhibit at Beals Preserve put out their annual call for poetry inspired by artwork in the exhibit. Their plan was to select 26 poems for the annual chapbook.
The chapbook can be purchased online here for pickup at the ceremony (or shipped for an extra fee).
This year’s collection was judged by Laura Gunnells Miller, who won first prize for last year’s submissions. And speaking of prizes. . .
Organizers announced that this year’s “Best In Show” for the art exhibits was selected:
We are thrilled to announce that Cordon Sanitaire, an installation of willow branches, woven into a spiral fence in the lower meadow of Beals Preserve, has been awarded best-in-show by art juror Lisa Barthelson. The work was conceived and built over 10 days in June by Roslindale artist Rachel Loischild. . .
Lisa said about the installation: “Cordon Sanitaire is powerful, relevant, visually stunning, and a work of devotion. It is a piece that rewards both looking and lingering…an invitation to spend time moving through, around, and within.”
