An ode to Algonquin: Seniors create tribute video

For Algonquin seniors Giles Ober of Southborough and Samuel Huddart and Nic Zanghi of Northborough, it wasn’t your average homework assignment. What began as an idea in a marketing research class, turned into a project that took five months to complete and involved nearly the entire school. It’s a project the three students hope will earn them not just a good grade, but one they hope will leave a lasting impression on the Algonquin community. MWDN: Southborough study says closing elementary school is possible

The question of how many schools Southborough needs in the face of declining enrollment has been an ongoing – and often heated – debate for several years now. A study released this week suggests the town could get away with closing one school as soon as 2016, but the K-8 School Committee isn’t necessarily convinced it’s a good idea. Southborough K-8 School Committee approves $17 million schools budget

Back in January Superintendent Charles Gobron told the K-8 School Committee the district may have to eliminate up to four full-time positions to make the budget numbers work. Last night he told the committee he was recommending the reduction of only two positions thanks to a budget “gamble” on special education funding. MWDN: Superintendent recommends five new teachers at Algonquin

Superintendent Charles Gobron presented a preliminary budget for Algonquin at the Regional School Committee meeting last night. The $19.4M budget, which is $893K above the current year’s budget, includes a request for five new teachers and an additional assistant principal.
