After more than a week of idle time thanks to a first-round bye and some uncooperative weather, the Algonquin girls lacrosse team finally got in their Central Mass Division 1 quarterfinal game yesterday afternoon. Turns out the week off and the rain falling at game time did nothing to dampen the team’s spirit as they rolled past Bromfield by a score of 19-5. Heavy rain postponed the scheduled girls lacrosse quarterfinal match on Saturday – if the weather cooperates they’ll get the game in later today – as the boys lacrosse, baseball, and girls tennis teams all advanced to the next round. For the girls softball and boys tennis teams it was the end of the road. Congratulations to the Algonquin girls gymnastics team, who on Saturday clinched their second consecutive state championship title. The girls were ranked second behind Andover going into the meet in Shrewsbury, but came out on top with a score of 143.700 over second-place Beverly (141.550).
