Southborough honors its veterans

There are more than 800 veterans lying in rest at the Rural Cemetery in Southborough, and last Friday evening each one of them was honored with a new American flag on their gravestone.

Memorial Day parade details

Southborough will remember its veterans on Monday with its annual Memorial Day parade. The parade starts at 9:00 am at the Marlboro Saving Bank at the corner of East Main and Newton Streets. Veterans are asked to meet at the Legion/VFW Headquarters at the Community House at 8:15 am.

If you guessed that the animal call I posted on the blog yesterday was a frog — and several of you did — you got it right. Specifically, it was the gray tree frog or Hyla versicolor. Who knew such a little guy could make such a big racket?

Algonquin Boosters Tennis will hold the First Annual McCurdy Tennis Tournament on Sunday, June 13 and June 20. The tournament, which is open to all ages and skill levels, is named in honor of former Algonquin girls tennis coach Jan McCurdy who passed away from cancer last year.

Reminder: License your dog by June 1

If you own a dog in Southborough and it’s more than six months old, you need to get a license for it each year. A license costs $12 for dogs that are not spayed or neutered, and $8 for dogs that are. If your dog is new to Southborough, you’ll need to provide a copy of the vet certificate showing that your dog has been spayed or neutered. Payment is by cash or check only.
