Today I learned that two Southborough restaurants are pursuing plans to open outdoor dining. It prompted me to look to see if any restaurants in town had already successfully done that. Three have. So, it’s time for an update.

Outdoor Dining Service (plus takeout)

The following restaurants are already promoting outdoor dining in addition to takeout.

Mauro’s Village Cafe, (508) 485-8730, Facebook –  The downtown eatery announced its opening of outdoor dining on June 13th, at it’s tables on the sidewalk and in the parking lot.

Owen O’Leary’s, (508) 481-1714, Facebook – The Southborough location’s patio opened for service on June 8th.

Red Barn Coffee Café (Rte 9 West location), (508) 481-9556, Facebook, The westbound location announced the opening of patio dining on June 8th. (This is also the location offering a curbside pickup groceries market.)

More coming soon?

The Board of Selectmen’s agenda for Tuesday night includes “Approve alcohol license alteration of premises request for outdoor seating”. Hola! and New Rose Garden are the two listed applicants.

Based on another June 23rd agenda item, more restaurants could follow without needing to wait for a future BOS meeting.

Selectmen are slated to discuss outdoor dining during the state of emergency. Town Administrator Mark Purple is asking the board to consider drafted temporary rules and regulations. His cover memo explains that to expedite assisting businesses, he is requesting authority to approve applications for temporary outdoor dining. (You can read that here.)
