It was a mostly winning weekend for Algonquin sports. The boys and girls lacrosse teams, along with boys tennis, all won their postseason matches. Sadly, for the girls softball team it was the end of the road.

The top-seed Algonquin boys lacrosse team rallied late in the game to stage a come from behind victory on Saturday over 8th-seed Nashoba in the quarter-finals. The final score was 6-4. Algonquin will take on 4th–seed Grafton in the district semi-finals on Wednesday at 7:00 pm at Foley Stadium in Worcester.

Also on Saturday, the 3rd-seed Algonquin girls lacrosse team won their quarter-final match against 6th-seed Shrewsbury by a score of 12-6. They’ll advance to the semi-finals on Tuesday at 5:00 pm at Foley Stadium against 2nd-seed Groton-Dunstable.

On Friday the Algonquin boys tennis team beat out South High Community 5-0 in their first-round game. Sixth-ranked Algonquin will take on 3rd-ranked Doherty today at 3:00 pm at Algonquin.

On the softball diamond, it was a different story. Sixth-ranked Algonquin was upset by 11th-seed Doherty in their first-round match, marking the end of the road for the girls.

After a bye in the first round, the 2nd-seed Algonquin girls tennis team will play their first postseason game today, a quarter-final match against 10th-seed Milford. The game starts at 3:15 pm at Algonquin. As defending Central Division 1 champs, the girls are looking to make it far into the postseason.

Check back later this week for updates on how the kids fared.
