Selectmen to decide on police promotions tonight

In what they have said will be a “difficult decision,” the Board of Selectmen will vote to promote three members of the Southborough Police Department tonight. The promotions come after a round of interviews last week.

Two police sergeants — Sean James and Ryan Newell — are vying for a promotion to Southborough’s first-ever position of lieutenant. Four officers — Health Widdiss, James DeLuca, Sean McCarthy, and Keith Nichols — are looking to fill two sergeant positions.

The Board of Selectmen meeting starts at 7:00 pm in the Upper Hall at Cordaville Hall (Senior Center, 9 Cordaville Road). It’s open to the public. A swearing-in ceremony will take place after the vote.

I think they are all good men and good police officers. I wish everyone well this evening as I know the Selectmen have had to give all of the candidates great thought and consideration.
