Obit: Lorraine C. (Costello) Massa – October 2, 2011

Lorraine C. Massa, 75, of Chelmsford, formerly of Bedford died on October 2, 2011, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Massa was born and raised in New Jersey and she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Camille (Capasso) Costello. She came to live in Boston area at the age of 20 following her marriage to Ronald J. Massa who was a student at MIT.

She lived in Bedford from 1969 until 2001 when she moved to Chelmsford. While living in Bedford, Mrs. Massa was a community volunteer at the Bedford Center for the Arts and the DeCordva Museum in Lincoln.

She was employed for 3 years at the New England Rehabilitation Hospital in Woburn where she was involved with patient care coordination for discharge. She was a member of St. Michael Parish in Bedford and the Chelmsford Chapter of Red Hat Society for many years.

Her husband, Dr. Ronald J. Massa died in 2000.

She is survived by four children, Diane Melby and her husband, Joel of Southborough, Ronald Massa of Toluca Lake, CA, Dr. Robert Massa of Denver, CO. and Chris Massa and his wife, Colette Desmarais of Winchester and two grandchildren, Christopher Melby and William Massa.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tues. Oct. 4, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford, Wed., Oct. 5, at 9:00 A.M. Interment will be in Shawsheen Cemetery in Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105, or to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
