The Southborough Democratic Town Committee will co-host a forum with Senate candidate Alan Khazei next week. Here is a press release with all the details.

US Senate candidate Alan Khazei will meet with area voters on Tuesday, October 18 at forum hosted by the Westborough, Shrewsbury, Grafton, Northborough, Southborough, Hopkinton and Ashland Democratic Town Committees.

The meeting will be held at 7:00 PM at the Community Room at Tatnuck Booksellers at 18 Lyman Street In Westborough. This is the third in a series of events with candidates for US Senate. “The first forums were very well attended.  Voters have been very interested in the opportunity to hear from people who are running for US Senate,” said  Kate Donaghue, chair of the Westborough DTC. “We have had people from more than a dozen communities attend events. Our format allows for real interaction between the candidates and voters.”

Alan Khazei co-founded City Year, a national urban peace corps, and Be the Change, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to building coalitions for public policy change. He worked closely with President Clinton to create AmeriCorps, the national service program whose inspiration was City Year, and with Senator Kennedy to craft and pass the Kennedy Serve America Act. He is an advocate for social justice and has been named one of the Best 25 Leaders in America by US News in 2006.

“We are really looking forward to hearing Mr. Khazei,” commented Susan Ruane, chairwoman of the Southborough Democratic Town Committee. “I’ve been very impressed with the quality of Democrats who are running for U. S. Senate.”

“Interest in the Senate race is increasing,” Jason Palitsch, chairman of the Shrewsbury Democratic Town Committee said. “Democrats are getting excited about 2012, and that’s being reflected through the increased attention our Senate candidates are receiving.”

In addition to hearing the candidates, voters who are interested in getting involved will have an opportunity to talk informally with officers of area Democratic committees. Most of the area Democratic Town Committees have regular meetings. Information is available at www.massdems.org . Mr. Palitsch and Ms. Donaghue are also members of the Democratic State Committee and can assist people who are interested in getting involved locally with the Democratic Party. Mr. Palitsch can be reached at 508-847-1139 or jasonpalitsch@gmail.com. Ms. Donaghue is at 508-404-8531 or KateDonaghue@aol.com.

Lest anyone think we’re singling out Khazei, previous events have hosted Tom Conroy, Marisa DeFranco, Bob Massie, and Setti Warren. We’re still hoping to hear Elizabeth Warren speak.
