Will this be the best Halloween ever for Southborough kids?

Last weekend’s snow storm may have postponed Halloween, but that hasn’t put a damper on the holiday for Southborough trick-or-treaters. In fact for many of them, this Halloween has the potential to be the best one ever.

Most area towns joined Southborough in postponing trick-or-treating due to safety concerns caused by the widespread power outages. That means there’s the opportunity for progressive trick-or-treating: Westborough last night, Northborough tonight, and Southborough on Saturday. It’s a candy-filled dream for Southborough’s little ghouls, gobblins, and princesses, and a sugary nightmare for parents.

With the candy haul potentially bigger than ever, what are your plans for dealing with it? Do you meter it out? Offer trade-ins for toys or other items? Encourage them to donate it? Or let them go hog-wild? Share your strategies in the comments.

For those of you with students at Neary, the school has held a post-Halloween candy drive for the past nine years. They package up the kids’ donated candy and ship it off to the troops. Last year they sent more than 80 boxes of candy to soldiers stationed in Iraq and other countries. Neary students can bring in their candy to donate again this year.
