Southborough Library seeks to raise $40K to fund improvement study

Last year the Southborough Library celebrated 100 years at its Main Street location. Now the library is trying to raise $40K to fund a study that will help propel it through its second century.

In a letter sent out to all residents, supporters said challenges lie ahead for the library. The facility is aging, it’s prone to flooding, and has limited space and an outdated design. Rapid changes in technology stretch resources beyond the library’s operating budget.

On the flip side, feedback collected over the past year, suggests patrons want even more from the library, from more media offerings, to more comfortable reading spots, to more community-focussed programming and learning activites.

Library supporters say they wants to study both the challenges and the opportunities so the library can remain a vital asset to the community. Toward that end, they’ve established the Southborough Library Fund, a non-profit, tax-exempt fund under the umbrella of the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts.

The initial goal of the fund is to raise $40K by January 31 to fund a planning study for the future needs of the library. You can help by filling out the donation form you recieved in the mail, or by donating online. Supporters donating $500 or more will be recognized on a Founding Members plaque in the library.
